Choosing the Right Costume for your Body
Halloween and other holidays often require you to wear costumes when you attend parties and other events. Just like regular clothing, not every costume works with every body type... To find the perfect outfit for yourself, take into account your height, shape, and comfort levels. Doing this will ensure that you find the best costume possible.

First and foremost, think about your body type and your costume possibilities. You can either work with your size or you can work against it to be funny. For example, a very tall girl could go as the Statue of Liberty. However, if you're really short, don't let that stop you! A petite girl can go as the Jolly Green Giant-everyone will have a laugh if nothing else!

Your body shape is also important. If you don't want to show off certain parts of your body, form-fitting costumes are not ideal. For example, to be superman, you would want to wear skin-tight red and blue clothing. If that makes you uncomfortable (and trust me, we ALL want to lose those five extra pounds), choose a loosely fitted costume instead.

The amount of skin you show should also take into consideration your comfort level. A lot of adult costumes today are designed to be "sexy." However, you can be Little Bo Peep without showing a lot of cleavage or Ride Riding Hood without a mini skirt! If you choose to purchase a costume, try it on before wearing it to the part or event. You can wear a flesh-colored tank top or leggings if you feel too exposed in your costume.

When choosing a costume for your body type, don't be afraid to try things on. This is crucial if you're going to buy a costume. After all, it's just one night! If you're going to shell out a lot of money for it, the costume should fit you like a glove! Most Halloween stores and costume shops allow you to try on the costumes before purchase. I would never recommend buying online-sometimes they don't look as good on you as they did on the picture, and costumes are usually non-refundable.

Keep in mind that costumes fit different people in different ways. When you borrow a costume, make sure it fits properly. Even though it may have looks great on your best friend, it may be a bit too snug here or a bit too loose there on you. However, never let your size restrict you. Everyone can have fun with costumes. You can always dress in black and use face paint or a mask only if the thought of searching for a costume makes you dread Halloween. Costumes come in all sizes in order to allow everyone to have fun!
